PlasmaCare® Nail Fungus Therapy

Modern cold plasma treatment for nail fungus. Gentle. Non-invasive. Modern.

Nail fungus – medically known as onychomycosis – is one of the most common toenail conditions. Typical signs can include a yellowish or whitish discolouration, thickening, brittleness or an increasing change in nail structure.

Nail fungus is not merely a cosmetic problem. If left untreated, the infection can spread further, affect additional nails and, particularly in at-risk patients, requires special podiatric attention.

That is why our practice offers PlasmaCare® cold plasma therapy, an innovative treatment option that combines very well with professional podiatric treatment.

What is medical cold plasma?

So-called cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) is a physically generated, energy-rich state of a gas. The PlasmaCare® system generates this cold plasma from ambient air, enabling targeted treatment of the affected areas.

Cold plasma can inactivate fungi and fungal spores. At the same time, it can support regenerative processes in the treated tissue. It is precisely this combination that makes cold plasma technology particularly interesting for podiatry.

The treatment is non-invasive and generally painless.

Why PlasmaCare® for nail fungus?

A particular advantage is that we can combine cold plasma application with expert podiatric treatment of the affected nail.

Before the plasma application, the thickened or altered nail can – where necessary – be professionally cleaned and mechanically treated. This reduces excess nail material and prepares the affected nail areas for further treatment.

The cold plasma is then applied in a targeted manner using the dedicated podo Spacer®.

Procedure

How does a treatment with us work?

We always begin with a careful assessment of your nails and feet. Not every nail change is automatically nail fungus. Discolouration or thickening can also have other causes.

In unclear cases, or where a confirmed diagnosis is required, we may recommend appropriate medical or mycological clarification.

If a PlasmaCare® treatment makes sense, we develop an individual treatment plan together with you.

Podiatric preparation

The affected nail is professionally cleaned and, depending on the findings, carefully worked on. Thickened or damaged nail material can be reduced.

Cold plasma application

The PlasmaCare® system is then applied to the affected area using the special podiatric spacer. The cold plasma reaches the prepared nail region and acts there physically on the microorganisms present.

Individual follow-up care

If additional preparations or home care are advisable, we explain exactly how and when they should be used.

Regular progress checks

As a toenail only grows slowly, treating onychomycosis requires patience. What matters is not that the existing nail suddenly "looks healthy" again, but that healthy nail substance grows in as much as possible.

How many treatments are necessary?

The number and intervals of the applications depend on the individual findings, the number of affected nails, the extent of the nail changes and other personal factors.

We therefore deliberately do not promise a cure after a specific number of sessions.

Nail fungus can be stubborn and nails grow slowly. Consistent treatment, regular podiatric check-ups and proper hygiene at home are important parts of a successful treatment plan.

Hygiene – an important part of nail fungus therapy

For us, treatment is not just about the nail itself. We also advise you on how to reduce the risk of reinfection or further spread as far as possible.

This includes, for example, the proper handling of shoes and socks, careful foot hygiene and avoiding transmission to other nails or family members.

Especially important with diabetes and other risk factors

People with diabetes mellitus, circulatory disorders, neuropathies, immunosuppression or other relevant underlying conditions require particularly careful assessment.

It is especially important to us not to treat schematically, but to embed PlasmaCare® therapy within an individually tailored podiatric or medical treatment plan.
